For competitions, we use specially cultivated industrial timber from certified plantations. The trees are fast-growing poplar hybrids, and all scrap timber is collected and recycled after each competition.

Premium-quality competition timber

In order to guarantee the best possible cutting and sawing conditions for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®, it is important to make sure that only selected trees and plantations of the same age and growth are harvested. Before distributing timber to competition venues, all logs are inspected for branches and flaws, then cut to the required lengths, and turned to the required diameter on a debarking machine. Only then are logs ready to be supplied to all international and most national STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® events.

A sustainable plantation

Sustainability

Because STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® involves a series of extreme lumberjacking events, a lot of timber is needed. As such we are aware that we have a responsibility to use sustainably grown and harvested timber. Wood is grown on certified poplar plantations, and is harvested with minimal impact on its natural environment. After competitions have concluded, the used timber is recycled for sustainable purposes such as biomass and electricity from renewable sources.

To secure the future of STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®, we focus on providing responsibly cultivated, certified timber in order to guarantee quality and sustainability. We ensure that newly planted trees are well tended and properly managed for maximum efficiency and sustainability when it comes to the next generation of competition timber.
